Florida boasts the oldest
continuously occupied European-established settlement in the continental United
States—St. Augustine. And our sister, Cori Talbot, is lucky enough to live in
this charming city, so rich in history!
She is working at Café Alcazar, located
in what used to be called the Alcazar Hotel and Casino and is now the Lightner
Museum. It was built in 1888 by Henry Flagler; and used to be the location of
the world’s largest indoor swimming pool!
We’re also proud of all the hard work
Cori is doing at her internship as a Congressional/Legislative Liaison for the
City of St. Augustine 450th Commemoration. She is helping to plan
events for the city’s 450th birthday in 2015, the civil rights 50th
anniversary in 2014, and Florida’s 500th birthday in 2013. You can see Cori, pictured above, on an 18th century replica ship, El Galeón, which she helped to bring to St.
Augustine by working with Spanish representatives in order to celebrate the
city’s heritage.
